Dr. Eun-Young Lee presented at the 2026 International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome (ICOMES 2026) in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Dr. Lee’s presentation, “Moving Toward Healthier Futures: Physical Activity and Pediatric Obesity in East Asia from the Global Matrix Initiative,” examined the gap between supportive physical activity systems and children’s everyday opportunities to move across East Asia.

Drawing on findings from the Global Matrix initiative, Dr. Lee highlighted how air pollution, extreme heat, and other climate-related challenges can affect children’s physical activity and healthy development. She also discussed the potential for active transportation to generate both health and climate benefits, emphasizing the need to translate supportive policies and infrastructure into accessible and equitable opportunities for children to be active in their daily lives.

The presentation was delivered as part of the KSSO–JASSO Joint Symposium on pediatric obesity in East Asia.

Congratulations to Dr. Lee on contributing this important regional and global perspective to ICOMES 2026!
